Water pollution is a very serious threat for the existence of man, animal and plant. Water is an important element of the human environment polluted in many ways. The farmers generally use chemical fertilizers and insecticide in their fields to grow more food. Some of the chemicals are washed away by the rain and floods. They get mixed with the water of pond, canal and river. Besides, mills and factories pollute water by throwing the waste materials and unsold products into the river-lets and canals. Steamers, motor launches and even sail boats can pollute water by throwing oil, food waste and human waste into the rivers and canals. Moreover, unsanitary latrines in the countryside on the banks of the rivers and canals also pollute water. Local untidy drains running into the rivers and canals cause water pollution. Diarrhoea, dysentery, itching and many diseases may be spread by drinking polluted water. Polluted water may damage the crops and the fertility of the fields. It may hamper irrigation and other utility. When water will be unusable, living beings will be threatened to be extinct. The whole world will turn into a boundless desert. Thus polluted water is harmful in many ways. It has a far-reaching adverse effect. So clean water is safe for use and water pollution should be prevented without any delay.
